I've got Coons eating all my deer feed. I don't have time to fool with dogs and traps. Any suggestions?

Switch from corn to soybeans. The coons don't seem to like soybeans too much, I think it messes up their stomachs. Move your corn pile to differing areas to keep the coons away.

only way to solve that is sit wait and kill...once you shoot they will scatter and go up near by trees ...but other than that there goin to keep eating your corn no matter where you move it..they will find it

you must have a bunch of coons. i know it gets old gettin 600 pics on the game cam of them but i havent had a real big problem with um eatin corn up too fast. but we dont feed corn but before and after the season so it's kind of a first come first serve deal then anyway. best thing is a trap and bait it with a honey bun or marsh mellows, works everytime!

yea i know you said you didn't want to mess with traps but a trap with a honeybun in it will do it everytime then you could either kill em to take em somewhere else

Go to coondawgs.com or ukcdogs.com and you can find a coon hunter near you to come trap them. Save you alot of hassle in the long run.

Thanks for the advice guys. I was trying to avoid sitting in the woods all night, but it looks like I may have to. We are feeding a mix of soybeans, protien pellets, and a mineral pack. The coons seem to love it. I may have to find some coon hunters to come in. Don't you have to register traps and get a special trapping permit?

Don't ask don't tell. As far as I know all you have to have is a metal tag on your traps with your name and phone number, and on private land you don't have to have a permit. I'm pretty sure thats only when you're on public land, although I could be wrong. Did you check out those websites I posted? You shouldn't have a problem having a coon hunter come trap them for you.

If I still had my dog I would take care of your problem for you, but like others have said a live trap with honey buns, marshmellows, or vanilla wafers and honey will work. Using sweets for bait usually eliminates catching varmints other than coons. If you do decide to take them somewhere else, make sure to get enough roads in between your property and the release site, but its easier to just use a .22.

Have you ever called to the coons? It is actually alot of fun. Get a coon squaller, when you are walking around trying to find sheds or when you are scouting just look for big hollow trees. Sit down 20 yds or so away with a shot gun and start calling. Give each spot 10 minutes or so.

We had a problem with them getting into our chufas a few weeks ago. We were getting 100-150 pics ever 3 nights. We put out 22 traps, caught 7 coons and 3 o'possums. After we caught the last coon 2 nights ago, we haven't seen a sign/picture of another one. A small number of coons can caused mass destruction on a crop/feed pile. Usually if you can get rid of 2-3, the rest will learn what the trap does and then they become someone elses problem.

Yeah, you definitely need to get those gone before they eat up anymore of our feed!!! It's gettin expensive having to feed your pets!!
I'm all for sitting out there and shooting them one night. Hate to, but sure don't want to keep feeding them.
