Well I guess welcome to the site. Your not going to get a warm welcome with a post like that right off the bat. I used to hunt the bay a few years back, but for the most part it has sucked the last few times i have been down there. It has been a few years since I made the trip down there so I could be wrong now. Maybe someone will help you out, good luck.

Take a weekend and go scout it out....February would be a good month for that since there is not much boat traffic and the ducks would be a little calmer. There are quite a few different species to hunt there.....dont expect alot of help on locations on a public forum though.

I wish I could help with your question but I am an Ooser living in SC. I do not understand why most of you guys will not help someone trying to keep the sport of duck hunting alive. I have hunted almost 30 years, have been blessed to take over 20 species of waterfowl in this time period only hunting in SC, NC, GA, and the great state of Alabama. Most of my hunting has been with good friends and we learned together, but with the hunting as hard as it is, it should not be all about how many birds one can kill but should be the enjoyment of helping others. I have been involved with a group that provides hunts for children with terminal illness and have enjoyed watching those kids learn and enjoy the outdoors that God has given us. I believe if kids were introduced to the outdoors they would stay out of trouble. While working the Buckarama in Atlanta, about ten years ago, I heard a gentleman say, If you take a kid huntin then you will not have to hunt your kid. So I ask, please help someone with info if you can. May God bless all.

Taking a kid hunting, and giving a freeloading topwater info that everyone else has worked hard for are two different things. I fully support the first, but not the second.

Now if he had said, " I am new to the sport of duck hunting, and was wondering if some more experienced hunters would show me the ropes." I would be glad to help him as would a lot of others.

good, so you don't need to cyber scout then. Go get a pair of binocs. in the next 2 weeks ride the waters that u are talking about, then hunt and scout everyday of next season, learn from your mistakes, and you will have the information that you were trying to get on here.

I don't think he is asking where to hunt, just some info that maybe someone could give advise too. Did you think that maybe he does not have deep pockets and cann't hunt and scout everyday of the season. Congrats on all the ducks you killed this year it doesn't sound like you are on public land with all those kills.. I hope you put them to good use.

Actually, only 8 of those birds came from private land, and that was from a buddies pond in arkansas that guides. He took us hunting for $20 for three of us. And to answer your questions about deep pockets. I make about $100 a week and am a full time student. Don't say that it takes deep pockets to duck hunt the 53 times I did this year. Me an my hunting buddy split gas costs. All of my money is spent on gas. And I put off spending money on beer, eating out, girls, etc. So no, deep pockets are not neccessary, only an obsession with duck hunting.

I still do not see what is the problem with sharing a little info, What kind of ducks would he expect to kill? Is this iformation that could be shared with someone. Maybe he is not about the numbers but trying to kill something different to hang on his wall. I had hunted for 25 years before having the chance to take a Canvasback, there are simply not that many in South Carolina, so I came to Alabama with a friend and yes there is a bull Can that now graces my wall with the 18 other species I have taken. I plan on donating these birds to a learning center for children some day. I never said you should tell where you hunt only share some simple info sometime.

Besides having the "obsession", not having a full time job so you can hunt 53 days out of the season helps a lot too. One day those 53 days will turn into trying to save a little vacation after scheduling some for family, getting those days approved by your employer, and taking care of other obligations when you can. And all of that is after you've been with your job long enough to earn a couple weeks a year to take off. I did manage 22 days this year myself though. Enjoy it while you can.

You need to back off a little .....Nobody on here is purposely NOT trying to help the guy......when people ask more specific questions on here, most of us with pertinent information would rather discuss via private messages (just as delta ducker did) rather than an open forum for all to see and make comments on.

Well here is the info I will donate..... :noducks .....but plenty of coots.....

I was new to duck hunting, at one time as we all were.... I, for the most part figured it out on my own. And everything I killl is because of the EFFORT I put in, not the effort someone else put in. I spend my money and my time to find ducks. So no i dont just willingly hand out info......

Ive had some doubts about why i stopped hunting the bay. This thread reminded me of one of the reasons i did. Let me give you 2 answers to your 2 simple questions. You are subject to kill most any specie of wildfowl that flys the Atlantic or Mississippi flyway. To your second question.." duck hunting 101" find the food and loafing areas and youll kill birds. See its simple.

Boy isnt that the truth....sometimes I wonder why I still even try to hunt.....sometimes it just gets to be mental torture listening to what everyone else is doing in the blind while you are at work.

Mr. Shootemcupped, you tell me to back off a little, maybe if you wouldread what I wrote you could understand. I NEVER said tell someone where to hunt only share some info. Maybe he doesn't have all that much time or money to scout. Maybe when your beard turns white as mine has you will realize the importance and ENJOYMENT of helping someone out. If I felt the need to back off, I would not have posted my comments in the first place. Maybe you are a die hard duck hunter but one day when the light turns on and you realize the importance of keeping people intrested in this sport, then you will become a WATERFOWLER. I once felt the same as you do but when you realize that anti hunters are trying everything to stop all hunting then you'll understand the importance of keeping everyone intrested. Even if it means you want shoot a limit of ducks everytime. Waterfowling is not pulling the trigger evertime you go out but enjoying what God has given us. Thanks Driveby you understand the the privilage of the hunt.
