PHONE 256 218-0753

The Alabama Waterfowl is sponsoring the banding and release of 1,700 Mallards at 8:30 AM CDST Saturday August 12, 2017. Volunteers to help with banding are invited to the Alabama Waterfowl Mallard Facility at 1346 County Road 11, Scottsboro, Alabama 35768 in Aspel.

The Alabama Waterfowl Association (AWA) in their 29th year of banding and releasing mallards in their Mallard Restoration Project. Banding and releasing over 152,000 ducks during this time. AWA has had duck bands reported being harvested in 22 different states and 3 Providences of Canada.
This program has helped Jackson County earn the top waterfowl county in Alabama. Also helped our state get recognized as 12th in the USA in number of waterfowl harvested per hunter. This creates economic benefits to our beautiful county and State.
This year AWA is banding and releasing 1700 mallards in honor of Mr. Seth Thomas Barkley, a 21 year old Marshall County Waterfowler that hunts at Farm 101 a waterfowl habitat project under the Wetland Reserve Program with the USDA, in Jackson County. Seth was killed in a tragic car accident in March of 2017 on 431 near Albertville, Alabama when the jeep he was driving hydro planed turned over in a creek and he drowned.
Seth’s dad Mr. Wayne Barkley, said “Seth was so interested in waterfowl hunting and was a model young man, that loved not only hunting ducks, but working for waterfowl habitat and conservation”.

In lieu of flower Seth’s family and friends donated money to help raise, band and release 1,700 mallard to carry on Seth’s legacy and interest that Seth so enjoyed.
Alabama Waterfowl Association (AWA) is going through a reset and membership drive to be more active in projects, legislation, enhancing and creating more habitat in Alabama and North America. A membership drive is being headed up by AWA in the State being led by Jackson County Chairman Andy Crockett from Scottsboro and working to get more members in Jackson County and throughout the State. Membership to AWA is $25.00. Sign up on line at http://alabamawaterfowl.org
For more information contact Jerry Davis Founder/CEO of AWA
Quote from AWA CEO Jerry Davis in 1993 stated, “increase and enhance the waterfowl population, the private sector that enjoy hunting and watching waterfowl and wildlife will respond and create more habitat for waterfowl and wildlife ”.
