Forum rules

This is pretty wide open, but there are just a few rules.

1) This is NOT a place to sell calls or dekes. This is just to share your work and discuss techniques - and get feedback.

2) If you post up a piece of work, and it gets made fun of - not our problem. When you post a piece for critique you better be able to handle negative comments. If you can't handle negative remarks - don't post.

3) IF you make 20 duck calls, please don't add 20 topics in the same day. Put all 20 in one topic. Now if you make some more next week, feel free to add a new post.

THANKS AND HAVE FUN!

I want to try to turn a call. Where do I get the wood and what size do I need for the barrel? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

If you find yourself around Scottsboro, there is a place called The Hardwood Center. They sell all kinds of exotic wood. You can buy some good smaller sizes for calls. It's just passed North Sauty Refuge coming from Huntsville.

You can use 1.5 x 1.5 spindles. Just a google search on wood turning spindles will get you to alot of results. I have always had luck with PSI.

Here's a place to get a "variety pack".
Minimal size: 1.5"x1.5"x3"-4"
May want to start with a 2"x2" to work on your design shape.
Good Luck.
