Forum rules

This is pretty wide open, but there are just a few rules.

1) This is NOT a place to sell calls or dekes. This is just to share your work and discuss techniques - and get feedback.

2) If you post up a piece of work, and it gets made fun of - not our problem. When you post a piece for critique you better be able to handle negative comments. If you can't handle negative remarks - don't post.

3) IF you make 20 duck calls, please don't add 20 topics in the same day. Put all 20 in one topic. Now if you make some more next week, feel free to add a new post.

THANKS AND HAVE FUN!

After I put the pic up of the bluewing, a couple of folks asked me if I did dog portaits. I also had one or two ask of I did anything in color. I got some colored pencils and I have to say I much more prefer black and white but I gave it a shot. I was in Canada working all week and had nothing to do at the motel at night so I decided to do a practice or study drawing of one of my main hunting partner's (pure quacker) dog, Boomer. Over all I was happy with it but learned a lot about colored pencils and drawing dogs. The eyes didn't turn out great and that is one of the most important elements in capturing a dogs "personality", so that was a major lesson I learned on this little project. I am thinking of trying again with possibly a simple background. Let me know what you guys think. Ill take any CONSTRUCTIVE critisism I can get. Also, any cool ideas for a back ground? Nothing too fancy.

Here's the reference pic:

And the drawing :

Get the eyes right and that is all she wrote. Awesome either way. You are extremely talented. I may be in touch about something along these lines.

I'm assuming you saw the bluewing a posted a week or 2 ago? It and the goose are my best by far. Wish I had more time to do it but I never do.

If I could draw that good I would make time for it! You could make a living drawing like that.

Man I can't even draw a straight line with a ruler. I'm jealous. Fine tune the eyes and I think you got it.

Listen to Lonster's advice. Make time for it. At a minimum that would be a heckuva nice way to earn some play money on the side. I think you could make a nice living off of it if you want to once you build it over a couple 2-3 years. I wish I had a talent like that that I could monetize easily.

Thanks for the comments and compliments! I'm working on a dog right now for a site member that looks much better. I definitely learned a lot on this drawing. Ill post pics when I finish it. I'm going to keep at this stuff on the side for now but maybe one day I can make a living at it.
