Small game or big game? I am looking into getting a blackpowder shotgun to duck hunt with. I use to deer hunt with one all the time and the only time I had a shot some idiot coming walking up about 100yards directly behind where my shot might go.

I used to blackpowder deer hunt a good bit but I haven't in a year or two. i liked hunting with my blackpowder rifle when hunting in the woods where i would have short shots. i always just stuck with iron sights but the blackpowder rifles today will reach out and knock em down! I've never shot a blackpowder scattergun but that sounds pretty cool.

I've killed several deer with a black powder gun. I take full advantage of the bow season deer patterns during our week long bp season. Deer aren't as skiddish yet.

Definitely never hunted ducks with a smoke pole. I have a 50 Cal. Knight Disc Black Powder Rifle. I love it. I usually get to hunt sans bow one to two weeks earlier as well. I went with a disc/shotgun primer set-up because of how fail proof it is. Lets be honest.....They shoot just like a rifle with little if any delay. Especially if you buy a newer model. The only reason I own one is for primitive hunts that require them and so I can get in the woods a week or two earlier then everyone else......which makes a HUGE difference. So, how primitive you talking? Flash-pan, percussion caps, shotgun primers, ect.....???

Went 2/3 last year with a ML in Louisiana, with a misfire/dud load for bad powder. If I can go to a single shot cartridge gun this year, I will. Don't care about the nostalgia for deer, just dead.
