my 1st band. mallard hen. 1999 al. waterfowl assn. 99.

2nd band. huge mallard drake. 2001. deer run plantation 01. frost waterfowl.

hen took in timber. drake took on a flooded private farm.

cool story about the frost waterfowl band. when i got my papers back, they asked me to call them. they said that this bird i shot was banded for a special hunt for handicap kids 5 years earlier. of course i got ragged alot about killing a handicap duck..

my first band was retrieved by my 1st lab which was her 1st duck to retrieve. two storys that ill always be happy to share.

Mine was a banded drake blue bill. I killed it last year on the last day of the season with the last shot I had that year. Being my only one ever I was extreamly excited. One band in five years of hunting. :many

another story,years later,,,jumped a flock of woodducks,,,shot 3 times killed 2 drakes,,both banded
ive gotten a band in 2 consecutive days..2 dif times,,,,most ever got in a year was 6...the past 2 seasons got 3 each,,,last year I got all 3 the last week of the season,,the best band story I got tho,is...last season on gville lake,,,goldeneye hunt..i had just shot at some,,,killed 1.cripped 1..lex77 and kduck was in the tender boat,,,they had seen 1 flyout over open water with the others I had missed,,and it fell dead,,,it was a hen,as they was goin to get her,,they found a drake none of us had noticed fall dead either,,,they pick it up,,banded..they hid it under the console,,,come get me and as we was leavin, kduck says,,nator what would u do if u shot a banded ge,,,I said prolly crap myself,,,then lex77 says,,nator how much u gettin back on income tax ,,now im freakin out,,im thinkin,,did I brake something....shoot the boat???shoot a boat house???they can tell im freakin out,,,,lex says...nator look under the console,,,i do,,,i said,,its a dr goldeneye..he says yep...really look at it..i do...and ..well I said holy crap...its banded,,,,then I said,,,yall are messin with me...no way this is real,,,,they said no,,its real,,,,well I didn't crap myself..teared up a lil,,,,my main goal last year was to get a diver band and I got the best there is...so I ask lex,why u ask about imcome tax,,he says,,,that drake died perfect,,,not a feather is messed up and we taken it to birdartist and its goin under glass...
for the record..i got 27 woodduck bands,5 mallards,1blue goose and the dr goldeneye

One of the first bands I got was from a Canadian Goose that was banded in Canada 14 yrs earlier. The band was worn almost thin as paper.
Farthest one was a Mallard banded in Churchill Manitoba, shot it on a small farm pond near my house yrs ago.

Wow! I love hearing stories about people's 1st, 2nd, 3rd banded ducks. I am new to duck hunting and have not had the opportunity to go duck hunting much. I cant wait to get my first!
