Guys I want to put a floor in the bottom of my boat, so I'm looking for suggestions. I want to keep it as light weight as possible. I'm thinking about putting a dense grade grade foam in between the support frames that run accross the boat and then cover it with a aluminum. I dont know the best way to do it so I'm asking for help.

marine grade plywood. I have redone the floors in several boats and they have held up well. Plus its alot easier to cut then metal.

I just redid a boat and I went with the PT plywood and then put neo mats over it it feels nice under foot.

The only thing about plywood is that it is so heavy did it slow you boats down any? Thats the only thing I worry about.

I did my boat with .125" aluminum plate with foam between the ribs . I screwed it down and then welded it around the edge . I did this in 2000 when I got my new boat and it is still holding up .

PT plywood will eat the aluminum up, in a couple of months if its unpainted.

Where did you get aluminum plate from? Did you weld it yourself or did you take it somwhere?

If you are going to leave your boat outside I would advise against Neo Mats. They hold water and are hard to dry out. You don't want to leave them sitting out in the weather. To each his own, they are nice under the foot, but that would be my last choice in floor covering.

For the floor out of .125 Aluminum without foam under it. Your boat should already have the required amount of floatation. Over time any foam is going to absorb water and the foam will hold trash under there like leaves and dog food...... and prevent it from making it's way to the back.

I have never pulled the floor our of a boat with foam under it that the foam wasn't water logged and it had a significant amount of trash/mud under it.

If you want to do that..... screw it down on the ribs with metal screws....... where you can take it up and replace the foam and clean it out easily.

If you do it out of wood..... you need to dry the wood out really good before you use it and coat it with bedliner before you put it in the boat. It will last a lot longer that way and won't warp as bad.

im with you markethunter. a buddy of mine put foam under his floor and he had problems with the water draining out of the boat and trash building up. I used marine plywood in one of my boats and just painted it with parkers before i put it in then put carpet on top of the wood and havent had any problems with it since I put it in 7 years ago.

I got mine straight from the Styx River web site it was $50 per yard (3X5) and it is $69.99 from cabeles and macks for the same thing. I love'em they cut down on noise and feel great under foot, I just takem out to dry after I get home.Hope this helps

My boat is a commercial hull that is why I put the foam under the floor between the ribs . I agree it will hold trash but I take a pressure washer and spray up the runners from the back to try to keep it washed out . I have not had any problems with the foam holding water yet . I have cut several holes in the floor to put in seats and for drains and the foam is still in pretty good shape and dry . I have never done this the day after a hunting trip or after a rain so it gould be geting wet and is dry by the time I have seen it . I welded it around the edge to the aluminum I had covering the rib's on the sides of the boat to make it strong between the ribs .The .125 aluminum is strong but over time it will get week between the rib's and flex . By welding it around the edge it make's it strong all the down the side . Hope this helps

If you are welding it to the sides...... Less water intrusion. Less problems. That's the way to go for sure.
